An attempt has been made to assess the water quality of Parvati river water and its suitability for drinking purpose. The Parvati river serves the drinking water requirements of Sehore city the never has a unique feature as unlike others it situated the forest area. The death and decay of vegetation and animals tn and around the river site contribute as a source of pollution in river water there sources tike animals wastes, agriculture run off and automobile emission are negligible The level of Dissolved Oxygen (DO) was less at the bottom of the river as compared to surface layer, due to biological activities and presence of decayed organic material. The concentration of chloride and sulphate were fairly low. Result of biochemical Oxygen Demand (B.O.D.)and Chemcal Oxygen Demand (C. O .D) were also higher in the bottom layer samples as compared to surface samples. Results of COD and other parameters reveal that the Hypolimnionic zone of the rivet is comparatively more polluted than that of surface layer, The water is drawn for drinking and other purpose from the bottom layer of the river and hence the analysis results of Hypoiimmon later are of key importance in this study.
