Abstract:

The physico-chemical properties of drinking water collected from different locations t Court (Haragram), Harlan Sugar Mill, Puthia Thana. Rajshahi University Campus, Sarda Rajshahi Cadet College and Nawhata Palli Buddut Office, at least 5 km distance to each other In and around the Rajshahi City (RC) in Bangladesh were determined The hand tube wells (80-115 ft, depth) and deep tube wells (275-375 ft, depth) waters were considered. Different physical properties such as pH, electrical conductivity, total solids, dissolved solids, suspended solids, total hardness, and chemical properties, e.g. Na, K, Ca and Mg ions contents in waters were measured. Most of the water samples in and around the RC were found to be alkaline with pH > 7. The'total solids, dissolved solids, suspended solids and total hardness were determined and these were found above the recommended levels. In most of the samples, it was observed that the concentrations of cations were found to be present within admissible limits. The hand and deep tube well waters in and around RC have clearly shown that the waters are not polluted but it is hard due to higher concentration of Ca ions.
