Abstract:

In the present investigation Penicillin G on the seed germination and subsequent seedling growth of Clitoris ternatea has been observed. The germination percentage under control and 25ppm of the antibiotic at the end of the germination was found to be 11 %. None of the seeds responded to 50ppm of Penicillin G. Under 100 and 200ppm of Penicillin the germination percentage was 4 and 5 respectively. All the concentrations of Penicillin G suppressed the shoot length compared to that of control. This was found to be directly proportional with the increasing concentration of the antibiotics likewise, the root length was also affected adversely.
