Abstract:

The copper(II) and nickel(II)-salicylaldoxime, Ma(salox)2 have been used as a complex ligand in the synthesis of a number of oxygen bridge complexes of the general formula Ma(salox)2.(MbL)2, Ma(salox)2 acting as a bidentate complexing agent, coordinating through two oximino oxygens to alkali metal salt (MbL) (where Mb = Li, Na or K; L = deprotonated 8-hydroxyquinoline or 1-nitroso-2-naphthol). The structure has been substantiated by infrared, electronic absorption spectra and magnetic moment measure-ments. Most of the compounds have shown significant activity against test bacteria, e.g. E. coli, S. aureus and fungi, e.g. C. albicans.
