Abstract:

Copper(II) metal complexes one containing deprotonated acetylferrocene thiosemicarbazone-based(A-)* and the other deprotonated 2-acetylpyridine thio-based ligand,(B-) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, 1HNMR, 13CNMR and FT-IR. The analytical data is consistent with CuACl and CuBCl formulations. Furthermore, it is found that the methyl protons on the carbon atom close to the ferrocene ring undergo phenomenal paramagnetic shifts from d-value of about 3.30 ppm to d-value range 7.20- 8.30 ppm with three signals implying that the degeneracy of the methyl protons was dissolved in the copper complex. In the case of proton NMR of ligand (B-) complex, pyridine and thiophene ring protons were broadened beyond recognition except those of the methyl group which were also distorted. The paramagnetic influence was much more portrayed in the case of the carbon-13 spectrum of B- copper complex, were all the signals were totally wiped out. This paper presents the findings. * The structures of the ligands are indicated below.
