Abstract

Studies on Surface and Thermodynamic Behaviour of Polyelectrolyte With A Non-Ionic Surfactant in Aqueous Medium at Different Temperatures

T. J. Patil

Abstract:

Surface and thermodynamic studies of aqueous polymer-surfactant system provide valuable information regarding the mechanism of interaction between unlike molecule. Critical micelle concentration (cmc) of pure surfactant decreased with increase in temperature. The cmc of P-S system increased with increase in polymer concentration and temperature. Surface excess concentration (Gmax) for pure Triton X-100 in aqueous medium decreased with increase in temperature. Same trend in the (Gmax) was observed for the present P-S system with increase in polymer concentration. Minimum area per molecule at the liquid-air interface (Amin) values for the present P-S system increased with increased in polymer concentration and temperature. Thermodynamic parameters of micellization viz.DG°m, DH°m and DS°m have been evaluated at 303,308,313 and 318 K using Phase Separation Model.
