Abstract:

The plant ipomoea obscura (ker-gawl) is used commonly in Indian system of medicine for various ailments. The present paper deals with detailed Pharmacognosy of the leaf and root of Ipomoea obscura (ker-gawl) it includes macros/microscopical (vein islet, vein termination, and Stomatal index) anatomical characters physicochemical standards such as ash value, extractive value, crude fiber content, and fluorescence characters of various extracts under u.v light. Preliminary phytochemical tests on various extract of the roots were studied, Microbiological studies of root extract of ethyl acetate (for antibacterial) root extract of pet- ether (for anti fungal) were in performed studies. In phytochemical studies, compound C1 & C2 were isolated and it was analyzed by UV spectra, both the compounds possess steroidal nature.
