Abstract:

Forty eight genotypes of mango were selected by random sampling method in the districts of Bhopal division to assess the heritable genetic variation for fruit quality traits in mango during fruiting season 2000-01. A wide range of variation was recorded for majority of the characters. All the tested quality traits exhibited high heretibility and moderate to high estimates of genetic advance as percentage of mean. Thus, the direct selection based on the phenotypic performance may be most effective. Amrapali, Dashehari, Langra and Alphonso appeared as table purpose varieties whereas, SBM 01-4 and Sehroli as sucking varieties after ripening of fruits. SBM 01-22, SBM 01-5, SBM 01- 20 and SBM 01-6 were identified as good varieties for use as pickle, dried powder and unripe fruit juice.
