Abstract

Inhibition of Mild Steel Corrosion in Citric Acid at Various Temperatures

V. Chandrasekaran and K. Kannan

Abstract:

The inhibition effect of Alphox-200(100% soap oil) and Starch on corrosion of mild steel on 1N citric acid was investigated by mass loss method at 302K-333K. The inhibition efficiency increased with increase in concentration inhibitors and decreased with rise in temperature from 302K-333K. The adsorption of this compound on the mild steel surface from the acid has been found to obey Temkin’s absorption isotherm. Some of the electrochemical parameters i.e. activation energy (Ea) and free energy of absorption (Gads) were also calculated. The maximum inhibition efficiencies 94.44% 1N citric acid with Alphox-200 (2.5%) and 97.34% in 1N citric acid with Starch (2.5%) have been obtained by mass loss technique at 302K.
