Abstract

2-Octadecyl Sulfonyl Polyethoxyethanol (Nonionic- Surfactants) as Inhibitors for Corrosion of Zinc in Hydrochloric Acid Solution

Salih S. Al-Juaid

Abstract:

The inhibitive action of some 2-octadecyl sulfonyl polyethoxy-ethanol compounds with different of ethylene oxide units toward the corrosion of zinc in 1M HCl was studied using weight loss, galvanostatic and potentiodynamic anodic polarization techniques. The inhibitive effect of these compounds is due to their adsorption on zinc surface. The adsorption process obeys Temkin isotherm. The percentage inhibition efficiency increased with increasing concentrations of these compounds and of ethylene oxide units. Moreover, these compounds provide a good corrosion resistance against pitting corrosion in chloride ion containing solutions.
