Abstract:

2-Hydroxy-3-substituted-5-methyl acetophenone ( la-c ) condenses with 3,4-methylenedioxybenzaldehyde in ethanol medium in presence of NaOH gives chalcones (IIa-c). Chalcones (IIa-c) reacts with hydrazine hydrate in ethanol gives pyrazolines (IIIa-c). Pyrazolines (IIIa-c) reacts with acetic acid gives 1-acetyl pyrazolines (IVa-c). Pyrazolines (lIIa-c) reacts with benzoyl chloride in pyridine medium gives 1-benzoyl pyrazolines (Va-c). Pyrazolines (IIIa-c) reacts with sodium nitrite in acidic medium gives 1-nitroso pyrazolines (Vla-c ). The structures were established on the basis of spectral data IR and NMR. Antimicrobial activities of these compounds assayed against test organisms S. aureus, S. dysentariae, S. typhi, E. coli, K. pneumonie, P. mirabilis. The activities of these compounds were compared with standard drug chloramphenicol.
