Abstract

Hardness Removal from Acidic Waste Water

B. Chakradhar*, Sonia Shrivastava and Manish Maudgal

Abstract:

The phosphate ore processing industry is proposing to treat the acidic wastewater of high hardness. Concentration of hardness is high due to the solubility of calcium and magnesium ion during the process. Experiments were carried for hardness removal from acidic wastewater by lime-soda and caustic soda process. Estimated doses of lime-soda and caustic soda were used to get maximum removal of hardness and also to improve irrigation quality of water. After carrying out of experiments, nearly 90% reduction of hardness occur due to laboratory grade chemicals in comparison to commercial grade. Also hardness removal efficiency is found maximum in case of caustic-soda process than lime-soda process.
