Abstract

Synthesis and Characterization of Manganese(Iii) Complexes With N-Salicylidene Amino Acids

K. Mohanan

Abstract:

Manganese(III) complexes with some potentially tridentate schiff bases formed by the condensation of salicylaldehyde with a series of a-amino acids viz. glycine, a-alanine, valine, leucine, isoleucine, phenylalanine, tryptophan and histidine have been synthesised and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements, infrared, electronic and proton n.m.r. spectral data. The ligands exist in the enol-imine form and coordinate to the metal ion in a tridentate fashion, though the phenolate oxygen, azomethine nitrogen and carboxylate oxygen. On the basis of magnetic moment values and electronic spectral evidences, a distorted octahedral geometry has been proposed for these complexes.
