Highly Oxygenated and Novel Phenolic Metabolites From Vernonia Membranacea Bedd.

A. J. A. Petrus

Abstract:

From the air-dried leaves of Vermonia membranacea Bedd. (Family Asteraceae) highly oxygenated flavonol methyl ethers viz. 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-3,6,8,3',5'-pentamethoxy flavone; 5,7,3'-trihydroxy-3,6,8,4',5'-pentamethoxyflavone; 5,4'-dihydroxy-3,6,7,8,3'-penta methoxyflavone and 5,7-dihydroxy-3,6,8,3',4',5'-hexamethoxyflavone were isolated and characterised together with 7,4'-dihydroxy-3'-methoxyflavanone and its 7-0-b-D-glucopyranoside, a novel metabolite, as well as the phenolic acid, 3-O-caffeoylquinic acid (Chlorogenic acid), based on the chemical and spectral (UV, 1H and 13C-NMR and FABMS) evidences.
