Abstract:

Various acid dyes have been synthesised by coupling diazotised 4,4'-methylene-bis-(p-amino-2'-methoxy benzanilide) with various acid coupling components and their dyeing performance as acid dyes has been assessed on silk, wool and nylon fibres. These dyes have been found to give a wide range of yellow to violet shades on each fibres. The purity of all the dyes have been checked by thin-layer chromatography. The value of percentage of N found in all these dyes is found to be in good agreement with the calculated values. The IR spectra of all these dyes were recorded on Perkin-Elmer Spectrophotometer (Model-377) showed all characteristic bands present in the dye molecules and a representative dye PMR spectra showed all the expected signals. The percentage dye bath exhaustion and fixation on different fibres was found to be good to excellent. The dyeing performance of all these dyes on silk, wool and nylon gave fair to very good light fastness, good to excellent fastness to washing and rubbing.
