Abstract:

Mixed ligand metal complexes of Pd(II), Pt(IV), Rh(III) and Fe(III) with diphenic acid and heterocyclic amines have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, conductance, magnetic measurements, infrared and electronic spectral studies. The complexes have been obtained to be (i) [Pd(DA)(2-pic)2], (ii) [Pt(DA)2(2,2'-BiQ)], (iii) K[Rh(DA)2(o-phen)] and (iv) K[Fe(DA)2(o-phen)] where DA = deprotonated diphenic acid, 2-pic = 2-picoline, 2,2'-BiQ = 2,2'-biquinoline and o-phen = 1,10-phenanthroline. Antibacterial activity of the complexes has been examined against fourteen Gram positive and Gram negative pathogenic bacteria by disc diffusion method and compared with that of standard antibiotic (Kanamycin). The complexes have been found to have moderate to strong antibacterial activity against the tested bacteria.
