Abstract:
The determination of manganese(II) in aqueous solution, using a new reagent and spectrophotometry method of detection is presented. The Mn(II) ion is oxidized to permanganate by sodium bismuthate and then reacted wtih Sym-diphenylcarbazide (S-DPC) as a spectrophotometric reagent. The product of this reaction was detected at 308 nm. The linear range of the system was 0.027-2.0 μg ml-1 with a 3s detection limit of 0.01 μg ml-1. The proposed method was applied to the determination of Mn(II) in effluent streams and food with a relative standard deviation better than 1.40%
