Abstract

Synthesis and Characterization of Aliphatic Alternating Poly(Ester-Amide)S from Alkanolamines and Diacids

S. L. Patil*, U. R. Kapadi and D. G. Hundiwale

Abstract:

The title polymers with low molecular weight, were synthesized form various combinations of aliphatic diacids (oxalic, malonic, succinic, glutaric, adipic, azealic and sebacic acids) and two alkanolamines (ethanolamine and propanolamine) by melt polycondensation at 130-140°C. In this work, two types of end caped polymers viz. carboxy terminated and hydroxy/amino terminated were synthesized. These polymers were characterized by fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements. The different properties of these polymer such as molecular weight, viscosity, hardness, qualitative solubility and mechanical (flexural) were also investigated.
