Abstract

Simultaneous Determination of Naphazoline Nitrate and Antazoline Sulphate in Pharmaceutical Preparations by Derivative Ultraviolet Spectroscopy

I. F.  Al-Momani

Abstract:

A rapid method for the simultaneous determination of naphazoline nitrate and antazoline sulphate in pharmaceutical preparations by first derivative ultraviolet spectroscopy by using the “zero-crossing” technique is described. The determination has been carried out in 0.1 M HCl solution. The calibration graphs are linear up to 34 μg.ml-1 of antazoline sulphate 247.5nm and up to 22 μg.ml-1 of naphazoline nitrate at 276.5 nm in the presence of each other. The procedure does not require any separation steps and can be used for simultaneous determination of naphazoline nitrate and antazoline sulphate in different pharmaceutical preparations. Good linearity, accuracy, precision and selectivity were found. The results obtained compared favorably with those obtained with HPLC.
