ABSTRACT:

Ethyl stearate reacted with hydrazinehydrate (80%) to yield acid hydrazide. This on reaction with different isothiocyantes gave thiosemicarbazides, which were cyclised with sodium hydroxide (4%) togive 1-aryl/allyl-2-alkyl-5-mercaplo-1, 3, 4 triazoles (I,). These triazoles were reacted with ethyl chloroformate and hydrazinehydrate to yield corresponding hydrazides (IIIa-f). Hydrazines were condensed with aryl aldenydes to various acylhydrazones (IVa-1), which on treatment with thioglycollic acid afforded 4-thiazolidinones (Va-1). These compounds were characterised by ir, pmr spectral data and screened for antibacterial, antifungal activity.
