Conformational Study of 4-Aminonitriles

ABSTRACT:

1 *CNMR spectra of 4-animonitriles 3-5 have been recorded in DMSO and the chemical shifts were analysed in terms of steric and polarisation effects. The orientation of cyano groups in 3-5 have been assigned as axial using the sum of the chemical shifts of ring carbons as a criterion. 3,3-Dimethylamino nitrile 5 preferably exists in twist-chair conformation.
