Viscosity of Copper Chloride in Aqueous Methanol Mixtures at Different Temperatures

ABSTRACT:The viscosity of copper chloride solution in aqueous methanol mixtures (10 to 40% v/v) were measured at various concentrations 1.0 x 10-2 to 9.0 x 10-2 mol.dm-3 and at different temperatures 30° to 50°C. Viscosity data was analysed by means of Jone-Dole equation. Least squares method was employed for obtaining different parameters such as A and B coefficients of Jone-Dole equation and to evaluate the nature of electrolyte. The positive values of B coefficient leads to the conclusion that copper chloride in aqueous mixtures behaves as structure breaker. Activation parameters such as energy of activation (Eμ#), change of free energy of activation (ΔG#) and change of entropy of activation (ΔS#) as a function of salt concentration and solvent composition (% v/v) were also evaluated.
