Effect of Pretreatments on the Fluorescence of Some Polymers

ABSTRACT:

A monomer 7,S- dihydroxy-4-methyl coumarin and five of its polyesters have been investigated presently to study the effect of pretreatments, like the plastic deformation and thermal annealing and quenching on the fluorescence spectra .The emission band at 320 nm is observed in all the polymer specimens, though it is missina in the monomer specimen, the mechanical treatment quenches the intensity of this band. However, the thermal treatment to all these specimens makes the band completely vanish from the emission spectra.
