ABSTRACT:

A new sensitive spectrophotometric method is developed for the determination of nitrite with p-aminobenzoic acid coupled with N-1-(Naphthylethylene diamine dihydro chloride) in acid medium. Beer's law is obeyed in the range of nitrite concentration of 0.05-1.2 μg ml-1 and the molar absorptivity at 550 nm is 2.74 x 10-4 l.mole-1. cm-1. Results obtained by using the proposed method for water samples agree well with those obtained by Saltzman standard method.
