ABSTRACT:

In this work, the reactions between citric acid and the ions of As were studied. They are of complexation reaction and very sensitive to pH of the solution. We have determined that As (III) reacts at pH > 4 with citric acid to produce [C6H4O7AsOH] Na2. 3H2O complex, and As(V) reacts in pH > 5.2 to produce [C6H4O7AsO2H]Na4.7H2O. Unlike the citric acid complexes with MO6+, Fe3+ and Ca7+, the As3+ and As5+ are not UV active.
