Simple and convenient procedures have been developed for the synthesis of 2-methyl-5-nitro-N-{4'-(4-aryl-1"", 5""-benzothiazepine)-phenyl} benzenesulfonamides by the reaction of 2-methyl-5-nitrobenzenesulfonamide chalcones with 2-aminothiophenol in the presence of piperidine. The structures of the compounds have been confirmed by elemental analysis and spectral analysis. The antibacterial activity of the compounds have been also screened."
