Synthesis and Antibacterial Activities of Pyrido Dithiopyrimidines

A facile one step synthesis of title compounds (4a-e) has been prepared in good yield. Treatment of 1,3-diaryl-2-thiobarbituric acid with thiophene-2-carbaldehyde and aniline in anhydrous ethanol for about 4-5 hrs afforded the requisite 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9,10-nonahydro-1,3,7,9,10-penta phenyl-5-thiophene-4,6-dioxo-2,8-dithio-5H-pyrido [2,3-d; 6,5-d'] dipyrimidine.
