ABSTRACT:

1-Aryl-3-o(5'-nitrobenzimidazol-2'-yl)-benzoylaminophenyl propen-3-ones were prepared by the treatment of N-3-acetylphenyl-4-(5'-nitrobenzimidazol-2'-yl)-benzamide 1 with different aldehydes, on condensation with guanidine hydrochloride furnished aminopyrimidines 3. The structure of the compounds synthesised have been assigned on the basis of elemental analysis. IR, NMR and mass spectral studies. The compounds were evaluated for antimicrobial screening against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria and fungal strain such asAspergillus niger.
